Corncrakes are doing well on Inishbofin this year. Corncrake expert Tim Gordon counted 12 calling males on the night of 16th May. There is a strong probability that this number is even
higher as some birds previously heard in certain areas were not calling that night. This is great news as birds have been slow to arrive to other breeding grounds in Ireland. Tim was impressed with the amount of early cover available for birds this year. Fingers crossed this might be a record year!

After a disastrous breeding season in 2015, lapwings are doing well this year with several pairs successfully hatching their first broods.
