Inishbofin has a mix of rocky and sandy shores, supporting a wide diversity of wildlife.
Inishbofin has a small area of machair at Duach Beach. This is a coastal grassland unique to northern and western coastal areas of Ireland and Scotland, which supports a rich diversity of plant, insect and bird life. Machairs are under increasing threat from development, vehicle use, overgrazing and recreational use. The dune system here was the subject of the Duach Beach Dune Project some years ago.
